Global flooding, which occurs in various parts of the world, is a real impact of climate change. This phenomenon affects the ecosystem, economy and people’s lives. In various countries, floods cause damage to infrastructure, damage agricultural land, and force many residents to flee. One of the most affected regions is Southeast Asia, where extreme rainfall often causes major flooding. Countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand face significant risks due to their low-lying geographic locations and poorly managed waterways. In Jakarta, for example, the combination of land subsidence and rising sea levels is worsening the situation, making flooding an annual problem that haunts residents. In Europe, climate change is also changing rainfall patterns. Countries such as Germany and the Netherlands, where water management systems are highly developed, experience equally deadly floods. In Germany, the 2021 floods destroyed basic infrastructure and resulted in losses amounting to billions of Euros. The government’s response has also come into the public spotlight, following the urgent need for a more adaptive system. In North America, the US east coast is feeling the direct impact of climate change in the form of tidal flooding due to rising sea levels. Cities like New York and Miami are working to build resilient infrastructure, but face major challenges in integrating environmentally friendly technologies into city planning. Efforts to reduce carbon emissions are also an important agenda so that the impact of flooding does not get worse in the future. Various approaches are being taken to overcome this challenge. Many countries are starting to invest in more sophisticated monitoring systems to predict floods and develop effective evacuation plans. Apart from that, reforestation and land conservation programs are also considered important to reduce the impact of flooding. By improving the health of the ecosystem, it absorbs more water, thereby reducing the volume of water flowing into residential areas. The agricultural sector, often besieged by floods, has had to adapt to farming techniques that are more resilient to weather changes. Farmers are taught to adopt plant varieties that are more resistant to waterlogging and carry out sustainable management practices. Civil society also plays an active role in raising awareness of flood risks. Outreach campaigns and training for volunteers are critical to improving community responses to disasters. Involving communities in flood mitigation planning helps create more efficient and locally based solutions. International investment in research on climate change and flooding is also key. Partnerships between countries, non-governmental organizations and research institutions are expected to produce innovations in water management technologies and better approaches to disaster prevention. After repeatedly facing the threat of flooding, many countries are now starting to understand the importance of global collaboration. By sharing data and experiences, countries can be better prepared to face the challenges posed by climate change. International conferences will increasingly become important platforms for formulating effective mitigation policies and strategies. Global awareness and action in facing floods and the challenges of climate change are urgently needed. Everyone, from governments to individuals, has a role to play in confronting this environmental crisis, creating a safer and more sustainable future.
